Della
Della Chuang

Bonjour, My name is Yann Vasnier and I am a perfumer, I create fragrances if you prefer. I was born in Brittany, in western France and I learnt Perfumery in Versailles, next to Paris, where I started my carrier with a focus on Fine Fragrance. I then moved to NYC for 10 years where I had the chance to work with and for many fashion designers like Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang… and a few celebrities. I returned to Paris to re-immerse myself in the birth place of modern perfumery 4 years ago. My job is to create scents that people love around the world whether it is with major international brands, or more creative niche and artisan brands.
I had the chance to meet Della in NYC, as we were involved in some joint projects for some major fragrance brands she was serving at that time. I have always been attracted by her unique connection to the sense of smell and her brilliant vision that she was bringing to the brands and connecting them to the perfumers creations. I am thrilled that she is now putting all her expertise and creative mindset to bring new perspectives to the sense of smell in China.
It is an honour for me to introduce the latest initiative from Della. Her unique Podcast programme to be launched soon and called "The Museum of Scent: 30 scents that shape civilization" is dedicated to the sense of smell. This programme is bringing a unique perspective to the universe of scents by looking at 30 key scents through new prisms: historical, socio-cultural, scientific and of course perfumistic! No doubt that this will increase understanding and raise interest for perfumes by Chinese and bring a new dimension to the appreciation of scent.
As a perfumer I live through my sense of smell. I understand that for other people this is not an obvious sense. Interesting to note that you cannot stop breathing… and smelling (while you can decide to stop watching by closing your eyes).
Your sense of smell is always with you although it seems less developed… it is all a question of exploring, appreciating, learning and discovering new scents.
As a perfumer I am playing everyday with hundreds of scents that I have in my mind and in my nose to create new ones.
Every smell good or bad can be a source of inspiration as well as any sensorial or emotional experience. It allows me to craft fragrances that help people to feel good around the globe and bring them some extra well-being. They can feel more confident, seductive, relaxed, energised, more exuberant and more thanks to my creations.
I would really engage each of you to listen to Della’s podcast and learn in a fun way from them while opening your olfactive mind. Hopefully this programme should increase your curiosity about the world of Scents and Perfumes and push each of you to have a deeper understanding of your sense of smell, discover new fragranced products and explore new scents in your day to day life. Like a perfumer learning the raw materials one by one, you can also start to go more deeply in exploring your sense of smell and get a lot of joy from it.
It’s a supremely entertaining way to deepen your appreciation of scent, while pleasing your ears and igniting your olfactory imagination. Della does a masterful job of decoding scent… Meet her at Museum of Scent, she can literally sharpen your sense of smell!
